Hripsime Rita Mkrtĉjan was born in the town of Erevan (Armenia) in 1954. She studied in the Erevan Polytechnic University. She worked as an engineer specialising in the science of energy in one of the energy institutes in Erevan. For many years she led a department of that institute.
Among her hobbies are journalism, music, theatre and poetry. From time to time she writes articles in town newspapers. She studied Esperanto in 1977. She took part in various Esperanto meetings and World Congresses up to the year 2000 in Armenia and other countries of the world. Since 1978 she has taken an active part in the Armenian Esperanto Association and has taken part in the organisation of cultural programmes during international meetings.
She translates into Esperanto Armenian songs and Armenian poetry, and composes poems in Armenian, Russian and Esperanto. In the past few years she has taught Esperanto in study groups. She has an Esperantist family: husband and daughter.
One of her favourite pastimes is singing with her family to a guitar accompaniment.
